Bought a Samsung LCD about a year and half ago that I just love. Bright
screen, one of the clearest images I have ever seen. Didnt buy it for
the 3D, but found I love it too ... no eye strain for me, but that
varies user to user when it comes to the 3D world.

About ten months after I bought it I began to have some RFI in a couple
of places in ham bands, and would have a popping sound from the TV every
now and then. Sometimes would even shut down for no reason or lock up
requiring the power cord to be pulled.

Had registered the set on the internet at the Samsung site, so I went
back there and requested service for the problem. Immediately had a
response and acceptance of the warranty service request and a tech was
schedule to come out to my home.

Yep, the switching power supply was replaced. Been almost a year now and
no problems have returned and the rfi was gone too. Must have been a
change in the board versions is my guess.

While we are on this topic, there are two frequent failure modes for
todays electronics. Bad components, such as capacitors for power
supplies from China in computers and TV's, and the none lead solder
standard.

Turns that the original ten / lead solder had a balanced chemistry.
Todays non lead solder is not balanced and lets the tin in the solder
grow whiskers. These whiskers grow inside chips, along the tightly
spaced printed circuit boards, and create shorts across conductors as
you can imagine.

Such is progress eh??
