[RFI] FCC issues official citation for well pump RFI on Topband

The VFD can be mounted in an outdoor (NEMA 3R) or better yet a water tight
(NEMA 4(X)) enclosure.  If it will be mounted directly in the sun, a roof
over the top to keep the drive in the shade is not a bad idea.  Also the
drive will probably need some type of cool air supply such as a unit cooler.

Yes I came across one the other day.  A local college is putting in a well
pump, 60HP 480V 3 Phase. (they are on a very high hill, its super deep) It
is controlled by a VFD.  

The only reason I know about it is that I had to do the electrical
engineering for the service transformer from the utility and the feeder to
the pump control board disconnect.  We did not have anything to do with the
control board, but I had their drawings and it included a VFD.  The civil
engineering firm was specifying all that control board stuff, well pump and
VFD.  

I did not see the specs, but my guess is that when bid, they get the
cheapest VFD that is weatherproof rated.

a well pump?????  do they make well pumps now with variable speed drive or
something?
