[RFI] Cree LED Bulbs?

Kurt,

This does amount to a serious scenario. If there is a switcher inside each lamphead (Mike says he has sent as unit to a friend for analysis), then there are 2 possible cures, neither of which is simple. The first would be to fit all of the interconnecting power cables with ferrites as I described in my post; the other would be to remove the LED "guts" from each head and replace with halogen lamps, which can run direct from the 12 VAC. Alas, these offending systems are not Mike's - they belong to his neighbor.

I suspect that applying the ferrite components would involve tearing up the meighbor's yard near each lamp, and the halogen solution would require removal of each lamp assembly for modification. Not good thoughts either way. I don't think Mike has said how far these lamps are from his antennas. So, NOTE TO MIKE: What is the approximate distance from these lamps to your antennas?

If the lampheads do contain switchers, there should be some Part 15 notices on the lamps themselves or, at the very least, on the system box or package. If none exists, then maybe these devices have not been submitted as Part 15. That might indeed be worth some degree of investigation. However, keep in mind that Part 15 does NOT address radiated emissions below 26 MHz, so no help with HF RFI.
