Is there any reason, other than size & versatility (no Ham tx),
to not use a Radio Shack PRO 93 or Pro 94 scanner?

They *appear* to receive AM across a broad range.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Pro-93
25-54, 108-174, 216-225, 406-512, 806-960,1240-1300MHz range
Scan rate 60cps
5, 6.25, 7.5, 12.5kHz steps
AM, FM
-------------------------------------------------------------
Pro-94
Frequency Coverage: 29-54, 108-136.975, 137-174, 216-224.995,
406-512, 806-823.9375, 851-868.9875, 896.1125-956 (excluding
cellular) and 1240-1300 MHz
Extended coverage of 220 MHz and 1,240 MHz ham bands

They also appear to be available cheap approx. $50.
