[RFI] ARRL to FCC...

Dale,
I was in a store and just moved from tv to tv. Just the plasma tv sets
were noisy but I was only a few feet away. If I had it to do over again
I would have clamped my rf probe around the power cord to see how strong
the common mode current was. I built an RFI receiver for 40 m that has
a good meter and a 60 dB attenuator in the front end. Do they still
have plasma tv sets at Costco? I'll try to get down there tomorrow and
see. If so I'll take some more measurements and report back.

I'm curious to know because the one I'm dealing with is about 140 or so feet from my antenna and if that radiation doesn't carry that far then I would suspect it's noise is being carried by either the antenna lead or line wiring or both.

Some have speculated that the noise comes directly from the TV, and this could be true, but I still tend to think in terms of noise coming out the AC mains and possibly also being radiated by the shield of the incoming coaxial feed line.
