Instead of each side mocking each other over what is or isn't safe, how about we all just take the position to be safe and following mfr & gubermint recommendations for safe usage:

You're more likely to be burned by overheating food or water than radiation from the oven, but they still recommend safe operation to limit exposure as well. So both sides are basically wrong.
As someone with firsthand exposure to 7000cGy (rad) each day over 7 weeks (rad therapy in 2006), I can tell you it takes a whole lot of power over a period of time before you start seeing the side effects, and the total cumulative side effects are also delayed over the years as well.
The biggest problem with microwave ovens for hams is the RFI/EMI it emits.
