Unplugging the refrigerator for a 48 hour contest would not make my XYL
very happy and I would certainly miss the cold beer afterwards.

Not sure if it was my review or not, but our 2011 Samsung two door low
energy refrigerator is horrible for RFI. When Samsung USA played dumb and
said that they could do nothing about it, I voided the warranty and
installed common mode and differential chokes INSIDE the casing. Did not
help. I added more common mode choke on the power line outside with no
effect.
The culprit is not the compressor but the compressor speed control that
creates variable frequency AC .... it's no doubt a square wave generator.
Sniffing the case shows the most RFI coming from the front panel near the
ice maker. When it runs, all HF bands have hash with shaprt spikes every 5
KHz.
a cheaper unit with a bit more compressor noise and only ONE speed would
likely not have the variable speed feature..... and may be RF quiet
We also have a Samsung LED TV that likes to turn itself on whenever I am
on 80 meters.... not enough shielding (also tried common mode on this one)
For this reason I will not buy Samsung, and find no problem with Sony
electronics in the same area of the house.
(In both units I unplug them when I am on the air. My wife hates it when I
am in a 2 day contest.)
