[RFI] House Ground

When we put in a 200A service, there was the regular three ground rods
for the panel and meter. However, the grounding in the house ranged from
sensical, to you gotta be kidding.. As the electrician was hooking the
ground wire to the fitting to which the plastic water line from the
street attached, he commented" Yah, I know, it doesn't make sense to me
either, but code requires it".

Although there's a ground for the panel, I have noticed that there is another ground for the natural gas manifold that feeds all the gas appliances. #6 wire goes from that manifold ground to the copper pipes of the water heater, where the grounding wire wraps several times around the copper pipes..... Good, yes? LMAO!. The copper pipes (inlet and outlet to the water heater) are connected to pex. For those of you not familiar with pex, pex is the new water pipe runs and is plastic. So ground at this point, essentially goes to plastic. BRILLIANT!!

That's how I found mine wired before I added a connection to my outdoor ground rods along the back of the house for my ham shack. Now everything's bonded together on an underground buss. My house was built in about 1977-78 so cold water copper pipes were probably still code then. I think recent water piping changes may have made that a thing of the past.
