[RFI] Air Conditioner / Heat Pump recommendations

Thanks Frank (and the others that have responded).

I opted to go with a Lennox unit (LRP 16HP-048) based on the comments and personal conversations. I discussed RFI with the sales contractor and one of their "more knowledgeable" (term used lightly) staffer at the office and explained the problem. Initially reluctant, after the conversation they agreed to work with me to remediate any RFI issues and included that verbiage in the contract.

The one I chose does not have a variable compressor, it's 2 stage. However, it does have a variable fan motor. The contractor is going to consult with Lennox to better understand any known RFI issues. If it turns out this unit makes noise and it's not resolvable, they offered to replace the unit with a lesser model that is a single speed fan.

Crossing my fingers!

Three years ago I had a Trane/Carrier heat pump system installed.
Trane and Carrier make at least 17 models and at least 16 are exactly identical.

This is the approach I recommend to any serious radio amateur
considering a replacement heat pump, heating system or air
conditioning system:

First: My primary selection criteria was minimum RFI, every other
selection criteria was secondary or lower. This disqualified all of
the more efficient Trane/Carrier models.

Second: My installer agreed to a "no RFI" clause in my contract.
He consulted with Trane/Carrier and they told my contractor that
there was no RFI risk with the system in my contract.

I have never heard a trace of RFI radiated by this heat pump system.

Truth in advertising: My antennas are spread across more than
20 acres. No antennas are within 200 feet of the heat pump.
My low band receiving antennas are more than 700 feet away.

My system uses a Carrier FX4 "Comfort Series" air handler (the indoor unit).

and a Bryant 214D "Legacy Series" heat pump (the outdoor unit)

I highly recommend a Trane.

Do not use Goodman - they are only "contractor/builder" grade and die in a few years. I have gone thru 5 Goodmans in 12 years (we have 3 heat pumps) and my Trane is by far the best.
