No surprise -- a single pass through one of them is optimum for 2M. 
Multiple turns are required for HF. See the app note on my webpage 
about killing RF noise, and use the recommended chokes for killing a 
noise source on that power cord (what works for TX also works for RX).

Even better, take a look at the Field Day generator filter in 
k9yc.com/RFI-Ham.pdf and build one to patch inline with the power cord.
