I hate to generalize from a small sample, but years ago when LED bulbs were still relatively new I bought 2 of them to test out.  The first one I tried had a similarly wide voltage range, like 85-260v, and was horribly noisy... that one I donated to the arrl for further testing.  The other one was marked as only 120v , it was quiet and is still in use today.
