[RFI] Generac 16KW Standby Generator - NO RFI!

Hey Chris, your scenario is quite typical. If you turn off all the circuits
in your house at the load center except for the circuit your radio is on
and then turn off everything and unplug everything except your radio that's
on the remaining circuit that won't give you a realistic view of whether
your noise is coming from inside or outside.
Don't be so quick to judge on your installation as most of the time it
isn't the installation it creates the noise or allows and always in. Most
of what you're hearing is most likely coming from others nearby. Not to say
that it couldn't be you or partially your equipment in your house. But if
you turn everything off and you're asking me to goes down to s units then
turn each circuit on one at a time in 5 minutes intervals or 5 minutes
apart. That will give things on that circuit time to energize and start
back up and create noise if they're going to and it'll give you the
opportunity to see what creates noise in your house. If you turn on one
circuit for 5 minutes and get new increase in noise, turn that circuit off
and turn the next one on for 5 minutes and continue that process until
you've done every circuit in your house. Once you determine the circuit
that's noisy then determine what it is on that circuit that's creating
noise. Then you have to determine whether to replace it or filter it. It's
not likely to be filtered at the radio equipment. You'll need to filter it
at the device more so than at your radio because at the device it will
radiate throughout the house and many different paths and it's very
difficult to filter all that out at your radio. Remember when your
generator is running most of your neighbors don't have generators and all
their equipment is turned off to make for a really nice quiet RF
environment.
Wouldn't it be nice if during a contest you could go down the road and open
up the circuit to your neighborhood while the contest is going on! That's
something to laugh at not consider. LOL
