With the purchase of a home in Kenora by our daughter and son-in-law, we
will have the opportunity to put up a decent antenna system for HF and VHF.
Earlier today our son-in-law was talking to us about what sort of
antenna(s) we might want to put up. When I mention a tri-band beam he asked
what the cost of a used beam might be and offered to allow us to erect it
at their new place! Therefore we are looking for a tri-bander, with a
3-element beam likely preferred, in decent condition. We would also be open
to finding something like the Force 12 C3S two-element tri-bander. Since we
do not run an amplifier, and probably never will, we would not be adverse
to getting one of the older tri-banders rated at 300 watts.
The location of their home, on a hillside with an excellent take-off angle
from about 45 to 225 degrees azimuth, is good enough that we should not
require a tower. We will, however, need a rotor capable of handling the
beam and being mounted on a thick-walled aluminum mast bracketed to the
house.
If anyone has such an antenna and/or rotor available, or knows of someone
who does, please contact us with details.
We are excited since this bodes well for the upcoming contest season!
