Extra family obligations have kept me QRL since last Winter. I did spend a
little time contesting here and there.
In Field Day I operated a few hours Saturday night and some on-and-off
Sunday from my home station (Class 1D, MDC). My objectives were to have
fun; to work PVRC's FD operation, W3AO (15 miles away), as much as possible
(unabashed boosterism); and to work the rust off the K3KU station and the
operator for RAC Canada Day Contest.
I managed seven W3AO QSOs (tough on the high bands); and 136 QSOs total, 67
per cent CW. There was some sporadic-E to VE1 on 15M around 14Z Sunday.
(Remember that for RAC!)
Other than working W3AO, the highlight was hearing VE4BB on 20M SSB, S&P.
I guessed which way they were tuning, slid down a bit, hit F1 a few times,
and got all excited when they called in. That QSO, alone, fulfilled my
first objective. Another successful contest.
