What a blast!!

For me, going into a DX contest, I know I am screwed from the start as far
as working EU, and I was not expecting to do well in this contest. As Ed
pointed out: point at EU, and they cannot hear you. May as well be
running QRP. If you get spotted, an EU station will say "AHH - CLEAR
FREQUENCY IN NA!!, LETS CALL CQ!!. and you are done" In all fairness,
this did not happen this weekend. YAYY!! Thanks to what I was able to see
at K2LE.... Payback was WONDERFUL :-)

Saturday, 20 was not good. Signals into EU were weak, and they were busy
working each other. Sunday was a different story. Worked a bunch of
mults, and lots of weak stations called me. Fortunately, they knew they
were piss weak, and when I could not copy them they went away :-) In the
past, they would keep trying, and add to the noise floor, making those who
I could work that much harder. 40 was... wonderful. Yes -I hate to be a
baby about this, but I have 3 elements - that rotate -at 120 feet- and a
4-square. The beam is... not always pointed the right way, and it takes a
long time to rotate. It beats running wire antennas more than I can ever
express. I am thrilled with how this worked. My BEST outing in this
contest! 40 was wonderful <big smile>./

So: I have to ask: as a K3 owner, is it a CW only radio? Clearly, my TX
audio sucks, and I NEED help. I must have been busted more times that I
care to convey as VE6CX or VE2CX. I changed my TX EQ to give it less bass
- that helped a bit. I STILL kept getting spotted as VE6CX. Shit. I must
have 75 dupes in my log from busted spots.... If my exchange has an 8 in
it - forget it!! They would copy it a a six. Try and fix it, waste 2
minutes, the other OP STILL thought I was saying SIX (WTF!!), and I would
give up and say :QSL just to go way...

On RX, I HAD to run it wide open, and with RIT to offset the guys. The
radio is SO sharp, I could not understand the guys. Running it wide open,
someone sneaks in close, and they wipe you out... shit! There HAS to be
an answer to this.

One things about the Yaesu gear is - it *sounds* nice on phone. The K3 is
SHARP. Over the past few years, I have become a primarily CW op - thanks
to the amazing K3. So - how do I configure my K3's to work on phone?
Clearly, my TX audio sucks. RX audio ALSO sucks.

Recommendations for how to set the TX and RQ EQ PLEASE!!! I cannot do
another phone contest...

Oh..., wait. I have turned into... VE3JM!

Had fun!
