Hello Tom,

First just take the 740, than think what to do with that. It's got one of
best receivers ever, it is very quiet and the sensivity is just outstanding.
Some people even compare it with the IC-781. I've been pulling up weakest
RTTY stations out of nowhere with this radio. The receiver of my today's 756
is substantially worse in respect of sensivity and S/N ratio.
No experience with the 500 Hz filter, but if you manage to install it into
the proper slot, I guess, it should work, especially with the manual PBT of
the 740 (you will be able to adjust the passband to any filter).
