FYI on settings

Hi Andy,

On thinking about it a bit more, I now remember which way round the NET/AFC
should be, and WHY!
The person calling CQ should have NET/AFC switched OFF, and the caller
should have it switched ON.

This was because the CALLER was less likely to realise what was going on
than the CQ'er, hence the responsibility for the settings was down to the
CQ'er.
This was all very well in the early days of PSK, and because it was a new
thing altogether, everyone helped everyone else adjust whatever settings
were appropriate to obtain a clean signal.
Nowadays, with some guys regularly using hundreds of watts on PSK, it would
appear that most people are still wiring the soundcard to the rig, and
tuning for maximum smoke/needle deflection and running with that!

On reflection, I now realise that my 23Hz RTTY QSO's were conducted with me
having NET/AFC off, hence the lack of drift.

Cheers for now
Phil GU0SUP
