Nobody said you needed two top of the line transceivers, two or
three big towers plus sets of wide spaced monoband beams, commercial
bandpass filters, and multiple computers to do SO2R.
There are many SO2R stations doing just fine with a used transceiver,
coaxial stubs, home made decoders, and a trap vertical or low tribander
as the "second rig." Writelog handles SO2R very well in a single
P233MMX computer ... a pair of $200 "hamfest special" machines would
be icing on the cake.
I would bet a committed operator could add effective SO2R capability
to an otherwise competitive station for significantly less than $1000
and maybe as little as $500 for a good negotiator/builder/scrounger.
