Hi all,

Hhhmmmm! That is an interesting question.

Take a look at http://www.qsl.net/dj3ng/index1.html and you will see in
the upper left hand side a panel that indicates a NEW CONTEST from DL hams
for RTTY.
There was also talk of a new contest from a W, with a major sponsor, (I'll
keep quiet about that, as nothing has been mentioned so far) although that
person may wish to make a comment themselves.

If you look at the figures listed for participation in the Sprints, then the
figures alone suggest that they should be dropped.
I was going to say that any contest with less than 100 entrants is hardly
worthwhile, but that may be qualified by those in charge of results.
Therefore, it may be interesting to know just how many entrants take part in
some of the other major contests? Anyone want to give us some idea?
Having played in a couple of Sprints in the past, the main problem for DX
entrants is getting the attention of W's in a contest that really doesn't
make it worth while being outside the USA.

One should also take into account the declining conditions that are likely
to hit us soon, and wonder whether ANY foreign stations would take part,
thus possibly reducing particpation even further.
There are other contests that suffer from a lack of activity, such as the
Ukrainian and Russian contests.

Overall, there is no doubt that participation in contests is on the increase
generally, so I feel that either the Sprints need a new set of rules to
cater for the "rest of the world", or withdraw and leave the field open to
other new contests.
