[RTTY] Is AM Radio Harmful?

A number of years ago, the legal profession tried very hard to take this
little issue on. There is a large, very high power military vlf
transmitter on the island of Oahu (Hawaii), and some doctor noticed a
higher than "normal" incident of illness in the children who lived in
the area. Let's go to court! Much the same happened at the 60Hz level
when a "study" showed a higher than "normal" incidence of cancer in some
neighborhoods of Denver. That went to court also in several different
jurisdictions, including overseas. Luckily for all of us, no scientific
basis for the claims could be shown, and the plaintiffs did not prevail.

This entire issue is one very good reason for the RF Exposure guidelines
that the FCC has adopted, and that all of us as Amateur Radio licensees
are required to be aware of and adhere to. As long as we all do, it is
going to be extremely difficult for any attorney, no matter how
misguided or well financed, to win a case on RF exposure involving hams.

You can bet the ambulance chasers are watching the situation carefully.
As soon as the connection can be scientifically proven, watch out.
