I have the Mark V Field and run 100 watts regularly on long RTTY QSO's using AFSK. Actually I can run the output up to 125 watts before I get any ALC action. With 100 watts and no ALC indication I get very clean reports.
My Mark V Field cooling fan runs at 100 watts but not continuously or excessively and that output power level is not a problem here. I see these posts talking about their rig getting hot to the touch and the cooling fan running allot but that's never been an issue with my rig.
I wonder how some may have their rig set up. What I mean by that is that my Mark V Field sits on the desk top totally open and exposed with no nearby objects to interfere with proper air flow.
Personally I think a hot to touch heat sink on the Mark V just demonstrates that it's doing it's job at dissipating the heat generated by the PA finals.
Just my .02!

Subject: [RTTY] RTTY power levels
I am running an FT1000MP Mk5 at 40w output during rtty contests and the fan
runs almost constantly and it gets hot. My understanding of the MP manual is
that I can run it at 100w out for long periods but I am not too keen to do
his! The second radio, IC7400 runs much cooler at 40w.
I see from lots of posts that operators are running 100w output from
standard rigs with great success and no damage, some guidance on this would
be appreciated!
Thanks
