http://wa9als.com/naqp2004/2004NAQPRTTY.htm - I convinced Alan, WD9GMK, to
hit the road with me for some operating time in the NAQP RTTY. This was a
very low key effort for fun and experience. Alan lives in Indy, so we
limited our operating to that area this time. We operated from atop a
parking garage at the Indiana University School of Medicine; from the Museum
and main gate of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway; from near the Indiana
State Capital Building; and from various points on the go. For the
afternoon's operating, we stuck to 20M.

Later in the evening I finished the contest from my home property in Shelby
County Indiana - from the car, of course.

The only disaster, and it was a big one at that, was that we lost some Qs
from the log. We turned a corner and Alan exclaimed, "I've lost the log!"
I pulled over where we could stop, reached over and SAVED the [apparently
corrupt] log. This was probably a mistake! Noone has been able to recover
those lost Qs on 20M. Some have suggested defragging the computer etc, but
I doubt a local hardware problem was to blame, although anything's possible.
The laptop was a Dell D500 that is only a few months old and the HDD is
way-underutilized. There have been sporadic reports of WriteLog users
losing their logs, and I guess we joined that group this trip.

We almost drove to Cincinnati wher we could've operated in 3 states within a
few minutes of each other, but I just didn't have the drive in me that day.
Maybe next time we will set our sights a little higher/farther. I don't
know why more guys don't go mobile. It would really be fun from a nice RV
with a table setup for operating comfort.

No, I'm not posting our puny score - We were just playing around. Let's
just say the number of Qs was about equal to my bowling score and leave it
at that. (And I don't bowl like Shelby!) ;-))
