On top of it, a 15" LCD display has a bit more screen real estate than 
a 15" CRT display (about 12%).

The reason is that a CRT is spec'ed by the tube size.  The usable 
displayed diagonal is typically one inch smaller (there is usually a 
more or less 0.3" borders that are not usable).  An LCD is spec'ed from 
corner to corner of the true displayed area.

So, not only is a 19" CRT heavy, bulky and eats more power, but is has 
a smaller screen real estate as an equivalently labeled 19" LCD 
display.
