The problem with 160m RTTY is the same problem with 40m and 80m  
packet radio. On 160m, signals arrive via multiple propagation paths  
causing inter-symbol interference. The solution is to reduce the  
symbol rate. You might have more success on 160m if you lowered the  
symbol rate to 20-30 baud from 45 baud for standard 60 wpm RTTY.
