Not at all. There are many fine ops who produce world-class scores  
using only one radio. K3ZO is a good example.

10 years ago, I had the experience of operating SS Phone from the  
superstation that W4AN was building in Dahlonegah, GA. So, did having  
monobanders on every band, two radios propel me to the top ten box?  
Heck no. I didn't have the skills to make full use of that equipment.

There's a lot more SKILL to contesting than most people are willing  
to admit.

This is not borne out in the stats. If you look a the logs of the top  
SO2R ops, you'll find that only a small fraction of their total Qs  
are with the second radio - typically in the range of 10%.

Depending on the contest, top HP scores are typically 2-5 times the  
top LP scores. There isn't a similar distribution of SO1R vs SO2R  
scores. In fact, many SO1R ops beat out SO2R ops.

Contesting is a matter of skill, persistence, and luck. Hardware  
considerations are secondary.
