Hi Bill and the group,

You said: ".............Remember that non-ARRL countries (eg everything but
the US
and Canada) have to go through a much more rigorous process to obtain
their initial LoTW certificate................"

I'm afraid I cannot agree with this statement. All it took was to post the
ARRL a photocopy of my amateur licence, plus a copy of something containing
my address and a photo. This was simply a photocopy of my passport, although
it could easily have been my drivers licence.

I had expected to have to wait some while for a response, as I joined up at
the beginning, but within about 10 days I had an email from the ARRL
containing my password for use when accessing the website, plus the
validation file.

That was the only "extra" bit of work I had to do, and it all happened quite
quickly.

The rest of the process is the same for everyone, although I do know of some
folk who have found this the hard part, and they have not proceeded further.

Like Byron and some others, I have found that I have had confirmation of
band-slots on LoTW that I have never been able to get via the paper-card
route.
Most of these were not rare DXCC entities, but ones I had worked many times
in contests etc.

For me, LoTW is great, but I still appreciate any paper cards that come my
way! I see LoTW as complementary to, and not an alternative to, paper cards.

Now, if only the ARRL & CQ could sort out WAZ and WAS via LoTW!

73 all,

Phil GU0SUP
