[RTTY] Have RTTY ops become SSB ops?

This seems to come up on all the various mailing lists somewhat
periodically. RTTY (or CW or SSB or whatever) just isn't what it used to be,
the Americans (or Europeans or whoever) are rude cretins and poor operators,
and nobody QSLs anymore.

Just tonight I was reading some editorials from QST lamenting the same
things. During some DX operation the ZLs were lambasting the US stations for
transmitting incessantly without listening, and another group was taking
them to task for not QSLing. The general consensus was that operators had
gotten less considerate in recent years.

These editorials were from issues of QST from 1925.
