No one has mentioned anything about QRO.  I can attest that the HF9V can 
take KW RTTY contesting; the older version of the R-7 cannot; and I believe 
that the GAPs are rated less than KW also.
I've been very happy with the HF9V used in an SO2R config, mostly for 40/80 
at night, but sometimes also on the higher bands.
