"Since my name was brought into this, I'd thought I'd make a comment. I'm not sure where I came up with this 40% figure but I think Bill is accurate in that I did a study of my logs before and after going SO2R, but I don't think that figure is an accurate indication of what can be expected for everyone."

Where as K0RC Chimed in with:

I used the recent NAQP RTTY contest claimed scores to calculate the difference SO1R vs. SO2R can make. Dave, KT0R, is very effective with his SO2R setup here in Minnesota. I run SO1R. Dave's score was 41% higher than mine in this contest. We both devoted the same amount of time. So Don, this is at least one outside validation regarding your approximation of a 40% advantage of SO2R over SO1R contesting.

My overall contesting goal is to place "top 10" in my class and enjoy the process. Below is an excerpt from the current 3830 claimed scores. I am in 12th position today. I am curious which of these top 20 stations were SO2R. All but 2 stations report operating the full 10-hour limit. W4GKM and N9CK are near the top of the pileup! I see K4WW and N5ZM identified SO1R, but it would be a welcome addition if a field was added to the webpage to collect this optional data (like hours).

Will I be discouraged by getting pushed out of my personal "Top 10" goal, time after time? I don't think so. I do know during my radio career my participation in the hobby has cycled from active to inactive and back again. And these changes had nothing to do whether there was a contest classification for my preferred operating style. That said, I would support SO1R and SO-multi-radio in separate classifications. There is no debate that having a second (or more) radio available is a signification advantage when all else is equal.
