[RTTY] working split

I've never had the fortune, good or bad, to "face" such a pileup, but, IMHO,
a split of 1-2 KHz would have little, if any, effect on "clearing the
traffic"? Personally, I would find the "highest" station, in the band, the
move 5 KHz higher, and call? If operating split, is required, there should
be no interference from other stations?
