Bob is absolutely correct on this, although I have never seen it
discussed before. An experienced RTTY operator can tell just by
listening to the received signal whether it has decoded correctly or
not in nearly all cases. This has little to do with signal strength,
only with signal quality. I doubt if this is something that can be
taught, but it can be learned with experience and paying close
attention. It is especially useful in a contest to help make a
decision whether the print is correct or whether you need to ask for a
repeat.
