Hi Art and the group,
I think we have ALL forgot to sort the split correctly at one time or
another, and as long as you only Tx once or twice before realising it, it
isn't generally a problem.
Most of us are gentlemen, and don't post extremely rude messages on the
cluster while you are still in Tx for the 1st time, or send abuse to you
over the air.
I recently Tx'd on the DX frequency as I hot the "swap VFO" button instead,
and then got loads of abuse. Stupid, but I realised what I did very quickly!
If you watch any DX working split, it is amazing just how many of those that
Tx continually on the DX frequency are not regular RTTY calls. It is
therefore possible that they just don't know how RTTY works.
What does bug me is when you get someone call on the DX frequency, they get
told UP UP, go up, and get worked almost immediately!
So far, I have 3B7SP on 40, 30, 20 and 17m RTTY, so I am more than happy
with this!
If you are trying to work them, go 2 - 3 kHz above the pile and try! Or go
below the pile just enough to be in the clear and try.
This has worked for me on all 4 occasions!
Last night, on both 40 and 20, there were lots of spots saying "worked up
X", and that was where the pile seemed to concentrate. Avoiding that seems
to be well worth it!
I also noted on 40m last night, that they said UP FOR NA ONLY, but as I had
hit the CALL button before I read that, I was surprised to see them come
back to me!
Good luck all!
