Rag, this may or may not affect your thoughts on it as an RTTY radio,  
but page 4 of the FT-920 user's manual (http://hamradio.online.ru/ftp2/man_ft-920.pdf 
) states:

> FSK: J1D/J2D Audio-Frequency-Shifted Keying

I.e., the FT-920 is a Keyed-AFSK rig, instead of a direct FSK rig (it  
uses J1/J2 instead of F1/F2 emission mode).

Page 56 further explains, under the heading "FSK RTTY Operation",

> This mode utilizes the tone generator in the FT-920
> for production of the required Mark and Space tones
> used for RTTY operation.

Yaseu also used Keyed-AFSK in the FT-990 and FT-1000D, but switched to  
using direct FSK with the FT-1000MP.
