Well, back in the '50s there were two contests a year.  The Fall one
was Sweepstakes, and the winter-spring one was called the Anniversary
Contest.  It was held the weekend nearest the 20th of February and
commemorated the beginning of FSK privileges on the HF bands.  I could
look up more if you really want to know.  Believe the sponsors of both
of them were the RTTY Society of Southern California and its publication
originally called RTTY, which became the de facto national magazine
for RTTY enthusiasts.
