REPLY:

The only conclusion I have come to is that the IIR detector works the
best for me. The FIR is second and the PLL a distant third. A word of
caution however - the choice is probably dependent on some local
factors such as RX bandwidth, AGC action, locally generated QRN, and
possibly others. For me, it was quite definite in favor of the IIR,
but at a different QTH and with a different rig it could be quite
different. You just have to experiment. 

It is not likely that RiTTY could be made to work effectively under
Windows. At one time Brian created a version which would run under
Windows, named WiTTY, but it didn't work very well and he quickly
abandoned it. he once told me that RiTTY was able to work so well
because under DOS, he could address the sound card directly, something
not possible under Windows. 

I am not a programmer but I wonder if something  like RiTTY could be
done under Linux. If so, I would change over in a heartbeat.
