[RTTY] Re ZC4LI AMPS !!

This scenario is just an example of why perhaps both power and antenna capabilities should be the factors in determining the entry category. The entry categories that we have now in no way represent a level playing field for contestants. The system we have now encourages amassing huge antenna farms, which is IMHO ridiculous. I believe that the result is that people feel justified in bending the rules.

I would suggest 4 power categories(1-4) and perhaps 3 antenna categories (A-C) in a matrix form, with the highest location one finds themselves in the matrix determining the entry...  I think that ignoring the antenna is a big mistake, although determining categories would be an interesting exercise.

For example,
1 = 1.5 KW - 800 W
2 = 800W - 100W
3 = 100W - 5W
4 = 5W or less

A = Rotatable Beam
B = Multiband Vertical - Rotatable Dipole
C = Wire or screwdriver

            1           2           3        4

   A

   B                    X

   C

My station would be a 2B, ALS 600 amp and Hustler vertical.

Just food for thought...

Hi,

contest rules for SOLP state power limitation at 100W. There is nothing mentioned about RIG setup. If Steve is using his setup at 100W where is the problem?

Jim, thank you for your input.

The main point of my email was to refute the inferrence made by previous
posts {see below] that because I was using amplifiers I could not possibly
be classed as a low power entrant.

The actual power required to drive my Acom at 100 watts is 4.6 with my
present setup which suits me.

This will be my last comment on the subject.
