[RTTY] [MMTTY] Spot frequency

Thanks to all who responded and got me up to speed on this issue.  Interesting discussion.  Boy, I'm glad I use FSK!  Sure seems like that makes life a lot easier.  My radio is the Icom 7600 and I just rechecked the manual.  Page 64, "Data mode (AFSK) operation", discusses use of the three data modes in the 7600 - D1, D2 and D3.  In the ACC set mode menu the various data modes can be configured to select which input gets used for modulation input - MIC, ACC, MIC/ACC, or USB.  None of these offers an option to configure the Mark offset for frequency display.  At the bottom of page 64 is the following note.  "Carrier frequency is displayed when SSB data mode is selected."  So, as many have noted, use of LSB and one of the Data modes to run AFSK results in the VFO displaying the carrier frequency, not the Mark frequency.  I can find no way in the 7600 setup menus to compensate for this.

I also use WriteLog with the MMTTY plug-in module as my contest logger.  I can find no way to modify the VFO displayed frequency for the actual Mark frequency.  There is a command in the Bands menu, "LSB is really FSK", but all this means is, "If your rig must be in LSB mode to run FSK, set this check box to tell WriteLog that when your rig is in LSB, it should record and report the mode as FSK instead."  No way here to offset to the Mark frequency.

I know it's considered bad form to spot yourself, especially in a contest, but when I see someone spot me on the wrong frequency I would love to send out a correcting spot saying, "Hey, I'm really over here!".

  There were a couple of excellent descriptions of what is "going on" with RTTY spots not appearing on the real Mark frequency by some operators.

  Specific to the MP-1000MP, the fourth paragraph on page 54 of the Yaesu manual (that I downloaded off their website) shows the options for this radio. It says the default setting will display the Mark signal frequency, which is what you want when you post a spot. Unless you have changed this, you should be "set to go".

  In addition to checking this menu setting, you can determine whether your radio is displaying the Mark frequency by tuning in WWV at 10-MHz. When your radio is set correctly in RTTY mode, you will hear the Mark audio signal (2125 Hz) generated by the WWV carrier. If the signal is zero beat, the radio is displaying the suppressed carrier frequency.

  I know N1MM Logger has the ability to "correct" the spot frequency if a transceiver does not generate the proper Mark RF frequency. I believe WriteLog does too, but someone using that software should verify my statement about this.

  I've read stuff about this before, but would appreciate it if someone could 
  refresh my memory. During the DLDC contest I was spotted several times by 
  various stations. Most spots were at or very near my VFO frequency. 
  However, I noticed a few spots that were a couple of kHz below or above my 
  VFO frequency. For example, while running at 14082.75 (FSK) I was spotted 
  at 14080.6. Another time I was spotted 2.1 kHz above my VFO frequency.

  I seem to remember this was due to the 2125 Hz shift. Is this a difference 
  between running FSK or AFSK? In the example above was that due to the 
  spotting station running AFSK on LSB? What about the spots above my 
  frequency? AFSK on USB? And what about the spots I send out while using 
  FSK. Are my spot frequencies correct or off too? It was a bit annoying to 
  call CQ endlessly and finally see someone spot me, but on the wrong 
  frequency! Can someone clarify this for me?
