I know at least two active RTTY contesters from ARRL and operate with them 
often. Maybe they weren't consulted about DXCC.

Why, after the huge upturn in worldwide RTTY contesting during the past 
several years, would ARRL decide to eliminate the RTTY designation from 
awards?  I suspect the Newington decision makers do not operate RTTY at all. 
At least I got one DXCC RTTY award on the wall (4Z8BB)...
