[RTTY] QRZ to QRV

Well Tony, I'm going to change my TU macro from QRZ to QRV just to  be 
technically correct. Then at least people who really know exactly  what the 
Q-signals mean will send me their call right away instead of  waiting for 
someone else to send, which will cause dead time in my run. I  must confess that 

I thought QRZ meant "whoever is there send now", but  since it really means 
something else to Q-signal pros, I can't argue  that. I'm a relative newbie with 

only 10 years contesting and only  recognize the meaning of a few of the most 
common Q-signals. Always  something to learn. That's one of the reasons I enjoy 
contesting. Do you  think QRV will catch on, or will I always be a queer duck?

those of us who have been around for a while (45+) in ham radio  will know what 
QRV means . those kiddies hi hi... will just have to  read what the Q signals 
are.. it is like what you hear  guys doing this  day and time to see if the freq 

is in use. QRZ QRZ ?? DE  XXXXXX..  instead of QRL .

 I use QRZ, but in looking at the meaning of Q signals, I probably  should use 
QRV - "I'm ready to receive", after my TU. Do you think QRV  instead of QRZ 
would confuse people while I'm running? I don't want to  use CQ, if people are 
already waiting to call me, and reserve CQ for  general calling after the run 
has dissipated, per AA6YL.

Hi,

I think that in contest pretty much everybody should use  the same format in 
their macros. Macros should be predictable. With  ragchewing macros we can be 
crative, very welcome in fact, but in  contest let the pros lead the way and 
copy what they do, I always watch  them to try and improve my skills, after all 
they must be doing  something right... I think the addition of CQ at the end of 
the calling  macro is one of the best things that ever happended in contesting 
but if  I zap by S&Ping and hear a 'QRZ'  I will have to wait and see if  the 
station is actually running or if someone is just wondering who's  the station 
on that frequency, in other words I'm far from sure who's  calling who. 

It was nice seing everybody this weekend.   HNY 2011
