Richard's suggestion is OK if you do it right, but it is awfully easy to do
it wrong. 

If you leave AFC off, be SURE your tones are set to the default. In MMTTY
the MARK tone will wander around when AFC is on and when you turn AFC off,
it stays "wandered". You MUST click the HAM button to reset it to the
default. 

IMO, it's better just to keep both AFC and NET on. Goof proof that way. 

BTW the above recommendation is only for running AFSK. FSK is very
different.
