You realize that the road to becoming an ARRL official runs through ARES. Nearly all of them are former ARES Section Managers, DECs, ECs, etc. and therefore are more experienced with VHF EmComm than with HF communications. To them, digital means D-Star and Winlink. Most spend more time bouncing signals off repeaters than the sky.
