Gents,
Comparing notes after the contest, K2DSL and I both (independently) worked VK3JA this past weekend.
We each found Steve by S&P, each worked Steve on the first call, and noticed he was quite loud (as usual). K2DSL got him off the back of his Hexbeam, and I got him on my pipsqueak east-west-facing wire dipole 15 feet off the ground.
I spotted VK3JA after working him and, when the crescendo of stations hit him about 3 seconds later, sort of regretted doing so. It dawned on me that he might just like being able to work stations at a leisurely pace, rather than having such a thunderous simplex pileup that he might have to QSY in order to get back to making contacts.
I'd be interested in Steve's (if he's on the list) and others' perspective on this. Is spotting of a "rare" DX station in a contest welcome?
BTW - spotting me is ALWAYS welcome! And I am grateful to receive all callers regardless of their location or whether their macros are long or short ;)
73, Tyler, KC2LST
