Another advantage of this format is that if half the exchange is lost
to QRM, QSB or whatever, the other half still contains all the info
needled. 

I remember hearing that during World War 2 the US military learned
this the hard way. They used to put one kind of equipment in one ship,
another kind in another ship and so on. If one ship was sunk, they
lost 100% of that equipment. By loading each ship with equal
percentages of each equipment, they had a greater chance of all types
getting through. So obvious when someone explains it, but not obvious
at first. Likewise with macros.
