Why not you ask.  Because CQ is the proper thing to send.  QRZ is
wrong because it means "who is calling me" and should be used only
when someone is actually calling. TEST would be OK but CQ is shorter
and milliseconds count. 

The real problem is with Skimmer and that's where the fix should be
applied, as I am sure it will be eventually.  

And if you are really operating "the old fashioned way" as you say,
then just shut down Skimmer.  :-)
