Wouldnt it have just been better and easier to have the categories name SOAB LP and SOAB HP and so on?
There will be people who will be extremely confused and some that wont look at the rules, having operated before.
Adding the QRP category is a good start.
But rather discouraging for the other categories.
Thats just my opinion.
I am just a minion so please excuse my input

Subject: [RTTY] BARTG rule changes
Let me see if I understand the BARTG 2017 rule changes correctly:
1) SOAB ops can no longer use amplifiers (100w limit) but yet the Multi
stations will still be allowed to use amplifiers. In this period of
declining solar activity, this gives a huge advantage to the Multi stations
and leaves the single operator stations with peanut-whistle power
limitations. Wonder if this is meant to discourage SOAB entries? I fail
to see the logic behind this rule change and how it supposed to
".....appeal to a wider audience".
2) SO2R is no longer permitted in BARTG contests. Since setting up a
station to operate SO2R is usually a complex and involved process driven by
the desire to be especially competitive in a contest, it may likely
discourage such SO2R stations from even entering a BARTG RTTY contest.
At present time, the alleged 2017 contest rules are not published on the
BARTG web site, only the 2016 rules are present. Thus, the BARTG Press
Release is not supported by any view-able modified 2017 rules at this point
in time.

Gordon, NW7D
