OK maybe I am a bit naive but what exactly is a skimmer?

This coming weekend I will be taking my mast down for some seriously
needed guy rope replacement. Then maybe I can get something up for 30,
17 and 12 meters.  17 and 12 meters,  I have never operated on before.
