Don is correct on all the above. With most rigs, if you want to use
AFSK you put the rig into either LSB or USB mode and the software
determines the tone frequency. Ideally you should narrow down the RX
bandpass to about 300-350 Hz, but many rigs can not do this in either
LSB or USB mode.. Unless you have a compelling reason to run AFSK,
FSK is generally better because drive level is automatic and the VFO
dial readout is automatically correct, i.e. you don't have to add or
subtract the MARK tone frequency.
On the other hand, AFSK has the advantage of being able to use both
NET and AFC together, thereby assuring you are exactly on the other
guy's frequency. AFC works with FSK but NET does not.
