Baudot would be 7.5 bits (1 start, 5 data, 1.5 stop bits).
Could be eight if the programmer did not want to deal with
the half bit period.
Otherwise, it's likely that the data is simply "raw" binary.

The 2 KHz (1000/3000 Hz) shift makes things sound "odd".
Just like the old 850 Hz shift would sound "odd" to ears
that are used to 170 Hz.
