Although I can't say this issue qualifies as one of my top 1 billion
most deserving for donations, I have no issue with others who might.

In case some of you are unaware of this, I do have a comment on the
particular logging program that has been proposed.

Over the past number of years I have been involved with checking many
contest logs. The CT program has cost me countless hours of wasted
time and a good number of incidences of grief on the part of entrants.

For example, a CT bug (in my estimation) cost a team third place in
last summer's WRTC competition. The team listed in all the magazines
as coming in about 5th or 6th actually lost the last hour or so of
their contacts, and would have been third if they had been included.

The CT program saves data in binary format. It is very efficient in
terms of amount of memory required to store the data. It is extremely
intolerant of any flaw in data storage or data transmission. In other
words, if a bit is dropped in the middle of the log data, all data
after that point is often lost.

This has happened to CT users many times in the past, and I am sure,
will happen again this year.

I don't know why people do not use the TR logging program. I admit
that N6TR is a closer friend than K1EA is. However, the TR program is
quite superior from the operator's viewpoint, particularly on CW.

I hope I've done a little to minimize the spread of the CT program.

Take your chances if you desire with CT.

Incidentally, it is quite unlikely that any contest sponsor would
reject a .ALL log from a JX.

73,

Dick Norton, N6AA
