Subject: RA3AUU Here Weekend of March 31
RA3AUU, Igor (uses "Harry" as his name to westerners) Booklan, is
here in Los Angeles this weekend. He has been to some kind of
trade show in Las Vegas. Since his businesses are connected with 2-way
radio, I assume the show was related.
Harry is a very active contester from Moscow. Among other things, he
finished second in last summer's WRTC with RV1AW. I believe he is also
connected to the Central Radio Club (Box 88).
He was very helpful to the group of us that went to Tajikistan last
October. He arranged hotel accommodations for us at rates lower than
we could find, shuttled us to and from the airport, and arranged
dinners with UA3 contesters. He did quite a bit of work, as evidenced
by about 20 E-mails from him planning our trip. Note that he speaks
fluent English.
I will be taking Harry to the TRW Swap Meet tomorrow morning.
Also, starting about 3 PM, I'll have a get-together at my QTH. So far,
W6XD, N6TW, K6VNX, K6JL, and assorted XYL's etc. are expecting to
come.
If we get bored talking, I may give the presentation that I gave to
the SCDXC on my trips to Russia for 30 minutes, and see how Harry
reacts to what I say about it.
I've moved my house construction activities more or less out of the
way, and suppose I'll see what happens if I invite SCCC members as
well. This is the first time I've had a potentially large group here
since the earthquake. Hey, it was only 6 or so years ago!
If you can bring something to drink, like beers or sodas, or snacks or
the like, please volunteer to do so.
If you are coming a long way for TRW, you are welcome to arrive here
earlier. You might get put to work helping prepare.
If you can let me know you are coming, please do. That way, I'll be
better prepared. If you decide to come at the last minute, without
warning, that is OK as well.
Phone is (310) 455-1138. Leave a message if I'm out.
My address:
21290 West Hillside Drive
Topanga, CA 90290

Driving directions are:
>From the south or Los Angeles area -
Take the Santa Monica Freeway west. It will go through a tunnel and
change into Pacific Coast Highway. Follow PCH about 5 miles to Topanga
Canyon Boulevard, and turn right/north. There is an abandoned Arco
gasoline station at the corner of PCH and Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
Follow TCB 6 miles (use your odometer). You will see Froggy's
Resturant on your left. 200 feet past Froggy's is Hillside Drive. Turn
left/west. At the bottom of the hill is a fork. Take the right fork,
which is Hillside Drive. At the top of the hill is another fork, at
Summit Drive. You are at my house. Park on the street, and walk up the
driveway with 21290 on the side. It is right next to a fence with
21300 on it.

>From the San Fernando Valley -
Take the Ventura Freeway (101) to Topanga Canyon Boulevard, and go
south 6 miles. On your right will be a sign with a stick figure
indicating a crosswalk ahead. Make a very sharp right turn, to the
west, just after the sign, onto Hillside Drive.
At the bottom of the hill is a fork. Take the right fork, which is
Hillside Drive. At the top of the hill is another fork, at Summit
Drive. You are at my house. Park on the street, and walk up the
driveway with 21290 on the side. It is right next to a fence with
21300 on it.

Hope to see some of you here. Again, please respond if you think you
